Got a few hours of office/biz work in before bailing out around 1pm. I hit the gym on the way to pay off (thought I was gonna say “a politician”, didn’t ya?) an insurance bill (silly… it’s their lobbyist’s job to pay off the politicians) and then out to DeBary to mark the alternate pin positions. A couple of club members walked around with me, helping me take #s and paint while I measured (with a rickety old wheel) and flagged.
Most original positions were in the “A” position but a few were B or C’s. As a result, some much shorter placements are also going in.
Connie Bond and her daughter met me at the park for a little jam. The winds weren’t ideal but allowed for the occasional plan to succeed or luck to prevail. 1 knee tweak and an ankle twist later, I managed a reasonable enough “good note” to end on.
Then we went into doubles. I went back to the shoes I had been wearing. Despite their clunkyness, I CAN get off the tee with them. I’m sure that anyone near me on the course for the past couple of months have been subjected to my shoe variance issues. It must be a fascinating topic of disc-ussion for you. Sorry. I’ll ramble on about anything if it pertains to ways to improve my game.
Certified, class A-1, obsessed.
The ONLY thing I’m MORE obsessed with is course design. OK… not the ONLY thing. But the only thing I’ll go into detail about here.
I know I’m obsessed because, tonight, I was watching a movie…
OK…I don’t go to redbox or do Netflix. Nope, I go to the library. Free DVD movies. The tradeoff- it’s a crap shoot if I’ll find anything I: A- haven’t seen. B- want to see.
The point is, much of what I drag out of the bin, I had never even heard of.
One such movie that I picked up, stars Andy Griffith whose grandson is a “Playa” and keeps his promise to get grampa to date again after his one-and-only love dies…
I know I’m obsessed because, tonight, I was watching a movie… and I see this scene where some folks are sitting down at a picnic bench and I’m looking at the park they are in and I’m certain I recognize it. I pause and scrutinize it for nearly 10 minutes. Yep. Definitely. And, there’s a disc golf course in it!
So…as a result, I’m staging the first contest within the hallowed halls of the 1Kdgt’s celebrated (by nearly tens of people) history.
The movie is called “Play The Game” with Andy Griffith, Paul Campbell, Marla Sokoloff, Doris Roberts, & Liz Sheridan…
What park is shown at 51:12?
Also try 1:35:35. Look just behind Andy’s head as he snogs with Doris Roberts (Ray’s mom in “Everyone Loves Raymond”) for your proof that it’s a course. Or you could check the credits. And if you have even the slightest taste for Rom-Com’s, this one is actually fairly original and entertaining. But maybe not for the kids.
I have an autographed Blizzard Tee Devil for the first person to tell me what disc golf course is in the background!
I’m posting this on facebook, so the first person to comment correctly wins it.
It wouldn’t hurt to tell me which hole they are sitting near.
Go!
Tomorrow: Being the gullible sap that I am, I’ve been hornswaggled by someone on the ‘inside’ at Disc Golf mag, who convinced me to provide them with a “blog-style” article on my experiences at the PDGA worlds, rather than to actually try to win it again.
